Delicate and subtle
Rose
The rose, celebrated since antiquity for its beauty and fragrance, is the most cultivated flower in the world.
Its essence is extracted through distillation or solvent methods, producing rose water, concrete, and absolute.
Two varieties dominate perfumery: the Damask rose (from Bulgaria and Turkey) and the May rose (from Grasse and Morocco).
The harvest lasts 40 days between mid-May and mid-June and takes place at dawn to maximize essential oil yield.
A picker gathers 10 to 20 kg of flowers per day, with 400 roses needed for 1 kg of fresh flowers and 4 tons required to produce one liter of essential oil.
